Purple Pipe Water Services owns 2,000 - 2,500 gallon medium body water trucks equipped to deliver and apply non-potable water for landscaping purposes in a timely and cost efficient manner. Our mission is to extend recycled water regional pipelines to potable water consumers whom otherwise do not have access to them. In tandem with the installation of title-22 compliant infrastructure at the site of application (please see Purple Pipe Water Works), we have the ability to reduce the non-potable per gallon price levels which are more in line with today's trending potable/municipal rates.
Non-Potable Water For LANDSCAPING
Purple Pipe Water Services uses recycled water and/or reclaimed groundwater to irrigate properties in the Cities of Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View, Los Altos, Atherton, Woodside and Portola Valley. We adapt our type of irrigation service and watering schedule based upon a property's layout & accessibility, the amount of water needed, resources available, and any other special considerations. Our goal is to deliver and apply high quality non-potable water and apply it to lawns, trees, yards, and landscapes in an affordable, efficient, and minimally invasive way.
Purple Pipe Water Services uses recycled water or groundwater reclaimed from de-watering taking place at basement construction sites to irrigate parks, median strips, and sports fields in the City of Palo Alto. Please contact us if you'd like to reduce your city's dependence on potable water. Our goal is to replace a majority of the potable water used at city parks with a combination of rainwater, recycled water, and reclaimed groundwater. Our services might make sense for your city's parks, schools, and sports fields, if they are within a reasonable distance from a reclaimed/recycled water source and there are no plans to connect the park's water distribution system to a regional purple pipeline within the near future.
Construction & De-watering
Purple Pipe Water Services delivers recycled water or reclaimed groundwater to contractors and construction sites. Depending on the situation, we can deliver the water to a storage tank or spray it over a larger areas for dust control. We also have the ability to recapture pumped groundwater from basement construction sites and utilize it to replace potable water consumption for landscaping purposes. We distribute and apply the water to city landscaping at parks and median strips, thus reducing the city's dependence on potable water sources. Please contact us to set up service when you're ready to apply for your de-watering permit.
Deep Soaks for Trees
We schedule deep soaks for thirsty trees. We usually come for ad hoc or weekly service where we soak your tree/s with a set amount of gallons. We will water the trees in a ring formation away from the truck but underneath the tree's canopy. If run-off occurs due to clay like soils, or if the tree is located on a slope, it could be hard for the soil/roots to retain the water. We can install simple mechanisms such as fill pipes or do an overnight slow drip feed, but in general, the more often we come, the less hydrophobic the soil becomes, and it tends to accept the water better. For many trees, such as redwoods, we will use groundwater to prevent salt buildup (higher S.A.R - salt accumulation ratio) in the soil.
Purple Pipe Water Services charges for the cost of delivering and applying high quality non-potable water and a large percentage of that cost is the time it takes us to irrigate. However, we have developed a few different options for more efficient irrigation. If you have a large property, need your backyard irrigated, or just don't want anyone coming onto your property, ask us about installing "Purple Pipes" or an automated distribution system and you may be eligible for large savings off the delivery rate.
There are many ways to apply delivered water via water truck, but at each location, we try to recommend the most suitable and cost effective solution. In general, the simplest, but least cost effective way, is to have a one or two man crew irrigate directly off the water truck with various length hoses. Then, when the customer is ready to take the next step and prime their property for the water truck, Purple Pipe Water Works designs and installs irrigation systems which the truck can then plug into each time it arrives. This brings down our time on site, resources utilized, and thus the overall cost to our clients.
Most infrastructure systems start with "the purple pipe." This is a non-potable pipe which is usually acts either as an in-place (pre-installed) hose extension or fill pipe. In general, a hidden port near the street leads to a purple PVC pipe which then disperses the water via pressure from the water truck, further onto the property. This eliminates the need to roll out long hoses each visit. The purple PVC pipe acts like a hose extension and the truck provides the pressure. The feed of water could then be picked up in the backyard at another port where a crew member could attach a short hose and use it as a watering station for hand watering.
Water Storage Tanks & Cisterns
The most cost-effective option over the long-term is to install a storage tank or cistern on the property with a truck fill-pipe adaptation or modify an existing rain-catchment system to accept reclaimed water year-round from the water truck on an as needed basis. At this time, due to state regulations, Purple Pipe Water Services is only permitted to fill tanks with reclaimed groundwater although it is possible that we can get your system permitted for recycled water as well. We have the ability to modify or install automatic irrigation systems without cross-contamination issues and in compliance with California’s state rules and regulations (Titles 17 & 22) and we have a goal of streamlining the engineering and permitting process.
RAIN HARVESTING/Fill-pipe ADAPTatIONS
- Modify your existing rain-harvesting system with a water truck fill pipe and you will have a source of high quality reclaimed water year-round, especially when you need it the most, during the dry season!
- Modify your reclaimed water system to double as rain-catchment in the wet season!
Rain-catchment/non-potable water storage tanks and cisterns and concurrent system equipment should be scheduled for maintenance in the dry-season (or before/after the rainy season). Tanks should be cleaned according to the manufacture's instructions. In many cases, this means every 3 - 5 years. Please contact us to schedule a free consultation and we will calculate a quote for system maintenance and/or cleaning service.
Purple Pipe Water Services only uses the highest quality non-potable water for landscaping purposes. Please refer to the following for more information on the quality of the water that we use.
The Purple Pipe Company supplements recycled water and/or reclaimed groundwater into a traditional irrigation schedule of potable water on lawns, gardens, and landscapes.
By utilizing water trucks, in tandem with the installation of title-22 compliant infrastructure at the site of application (please see Purple Pipe Water Works), we have the ability to reduce the non-potable per gallon price levels which are more in line with today's trending potable/municipal rates
Pricing is based upon how long it takes for us to deliver the water and apply it to your plants property, so setting up the site beforehand with purple pipe or water storage tank and/or an automated water distribution system should help us bring down watering times and pass the cost-saving on to the you.
Also, many homes don't need an entire truck at a time. Ask us about "neighbor share" and if we get enough customers on your block, we will be able to discount the price. You will essentially be splitting the drive time.
For subscription hand irrigation, front yards can be as low as $20/visit and in general, we come by and water once or twice per week. Deep tree soaks can be as low as $50 and full tank 2,000+ gallon overnight slow drip irrigation as low as $175. If you already have a rainwater catchment system, water storage tank, or cistern on your property... or if you have Purple Pipe Water Works install one, we can schedule you for dry season groundwater refills for as low as $0.03 per gallon.
Supplementing your traditional potable irrigation cycles with reclaimed water could lower you to a reduced price tier for municipal/potable water.
i.) your distance from a water source
ii.) the size and accessibility of your property
iii.) the amount of water needed
iv.) other considerations such as "neighbor share" or installation of purple pipe infrastructure.
